Chrysopigi is located 12 km from the central port of Sifnos and 8 km from the capital Apollonia. Sifnos is well known for its numerous churches and monasteries, but the one of Chrysopigi is the most known and impressive.
The Monastery of Chrysopigi was built in 1650, on a promontory which is essentially a rock, which is cut from Sifnos with a crack along its entire width. Chrysopigi is the most photographed spot of Sifnos which travels with admiration all over the world. It is a place that every visitor of Sifnos must admire in person.
Near Chrysopigi is Apokofto beach. It consists of sand, crystal clear waters which rarely have waves, as the beach is located in a bay, and is not organised. To protect yourself from the sun, you can use the shade of trees that reach almost to the sea.
Lovers of diving with a mask can explore the underwater world to the left and right of the beach, where there are rocks, but also make the circle of Chrysopigi.
From the northern part of Apokofto, begins the Lighthouse-Chrysopigi path. If you follow it, you will reach the port of Faros with its three beaches. There are picturesque taverns, known for the excellent quality of their dishes and the hospitality of their owners.
In Chrysopigi you can find some rooms and rental villas and traditional taverns.
Local bus services from Kamares and Apollonia are operated to the area.
Three kilometres south of Chrysopigi, is located the well known beach Platys Gialos, which is a tourist resort of Sifnos.
